Bette Jane Wommack, resident of Fishers, IN departed this life Thursday, Feb. 8, 2018 at the age of 92.
She was born October 7, 1925 in St. Louis, MO to Thomas J. Winiger Sr. and Clarabel, nee Futrell.
Bette graduated from Southwest High School in January, 1944. She went on to graduate from Missouri Baptist Hospital School of Nursing May 2, 1947. She received her Missouri RN license December 12, 1947. She then enrolled in Missouri University Extension and did clinical training at Massachusetts General Hospital and later the University of Wisconsin to complete her BSN. She received her Indiana Nursing License December 17, 1968.
She was an avid reader and had a great love for history. As history goes she lived through several historical events. The great depression, World War II, D-Day, Korean War, Vietnam War, Cuban Missile Crisis and the Gulf War. The Social Security Act, discovery and distribution of the miracle drug Penicillin, sale of the first color television, integration of public schools, start of the McDonald’s restaurants, assassination of a US President, the microwave oven, first Super Bowl, first American to walk on the moon and the invention of the cell phone which she really never mastered.
She married Albert J. Wommack, Jr. on June 23, 1950. She raised 3 children and 1 grandson. She loved her family and devoted herself to making sure that they were prepared with the things each one of them would need to live fulfilling, successful lives. She devoted much of her time and energy as a caregiver to family members. Bette was a devoted mother, mentor and best friend who will always be remembered for her loving and generous heart, guidance, support, wit and sense of humor. She brought so many smiles and happiness into the lives of others.
Bette is survived by her daughter Kimberly Reynolds, grandson James Long and 3 great grandchildren Olivia Long-Dominick, Melynda Long and James Long, III.
She was preceded in death by her parents Thomas Sr. (Ponto) and Clarabel (Chris) Winiger, 2 brothers Thomas and Gerald Winiger, ex-husband Albert J. Wommack, Jr., son Dale Wommack, daughter Lynne Wommack Johnson and son-in-law David Reynolds.
Memorial contributions can be made to the American Diabetes Association.
A Celebration of Life will take place Sunday, March 25, 12:30pm – 3:30pm, Muir Woods Clubhouse (Fishers), 9098 Muir Lane, Fishers, IN 46037.

Your mom/grandmother was an Awsome lady, mentor, great nurse, friend to so many. She not only helped us kids as we grew and matured but also the elderly who she cared for. Her love of nursing, her family and community were her passion. She will be greatly missed.
